Ola introduces a fun way to boost kids’ calcium intake
Unilever’s mission is to add vitality to life. This mission is also realised through ice cream that deliver the benefits of good nutrition and can form part of a balanced diet.

In ice cream, Vitality is an integral part of our portfolio. It means delivering a ‘good honest scoop of daily pleasure’. Therefore, in order to deliver this, Unilever is embracing vitality by focusing on bringing a balance between goodness and pleasure into our existing portfolio, as well as into our innovations.

How does the brand implement Vitality?
All Ola MOO products contain at least 7% skim milk powder, which re-constitutes to 34 ml of skim milk and have been fortified to contain at least 240 mg of calcium per 70 ml per serving. They are also free from artificial colourants.

In South Africa, the current recommended calcium intake for children is 800 mg per day. This recommendation is, however, not met by most of the population. As reported in the National Food Consumption Survey of 1999, the mean calcium intake of children was less than half of that recommended in 81-94% of the children in most provinces’. MOO can help to supplement the calcium intake of South African children.

Nutritional profile of Ola Moo
As Ola MOO is a snack for children, it often contains less energy, sugar, fat and saturated fat than other snacks and beverages commonly consumed by children. Moreover, MOO provides the equivalent amount of calcium (240 mg) as in a 200 ml glass of milk.
